Motivation
Since I was a small, naive child, I wanted to make two games: A big racing game and GTA Czech Republic. Fifteen years later, I am a naive adult with a racing game franchise with more than 2 800,000 licenses distributed on Steam, but the GTA Czech Republic is still only a dream. During the past five years, others have made numerous attempts, most of which have ended in total failure. The best attempt so far was Vivat Slovakia, but they also came short in multiple aspects.
Project C19
I have been thinking about this game for some time; my research started with identifying the issues of why other projects failed.
- Bad performance
- Focus on not-that-important aspects (at least in my opinion)
- Buggy
- Poor graphics (most of the time)
- The story could be more interesting, in my opinion (in most cases)
So, how do we solve these issues? First, I think the primary focus should be making good games with limited scope in terms of features while maintaining a big world and don’t get stuck in nonimportant details. Second, use MFF students, who can perhaps develop tools and frameworks to create huge chunks of the world with the highest quality and performance. And that’s why I need you!
Story
I and my friend Vláďa, who is helping me with the story, had many ideas; our goal was to make a believable story that would be totally crazy and fresh at the same time. Ultimately, we concluded that we want to capture the year 2020/2021 with all its craziness. Get ready for stealth missions where you need to get into the pub without being spotted. There will be many crazy missions, including stealing a truck with face masks and selling them on the black market. We also plan for some unique mechanics like choosing if you will have hazy glasses of seeing everything blurred during stealth missions and more!
Open projects
I am looking for excited students who would like to research cool topics with the highest aims. And later turn this vision into a reality. There are multiple obvious topics to start with:
- World generation: Buildings, nature
- NPC systems: Humans, Car traffic
- Perhaps systems that somehow simplify animations and storytelling
- Any other aspect of such a big game that is needed and you are interested in it
But there are other possibilities as well. If you are interested in any of this, feel free to contact me, and we will surely find a topic that will fit you with the appropriate size.

FAQ
Why don’t I make the game alone?
I already made one bigger medium game, and it took me a lot of years. I am not interested in going through the same process twice to end up in the same place. I want to make something cooler and can’t work 240 hours/day.
What will be my reward?
1) Credits, learning, and experimenting with cool stuff during school. 2) If everything goes well, we will release a demo game based on done research, get some money (I have several ideas about how), and then finish the game.
Isn’t it a „red flag“ that you have no demo already?
No, I am in the phase of finding out if the project is cool enough to succeed. If nobody is interested in it, then there is no point in doing it.
Will I be making a game for free for you?
No, you will be researching how to efficiently do stuff and experiment with different approaches. Then, we will use that knowledge when creating the game to blitz through the difficult parts to save costs.
What engine will be used?
Unity 6. Although it has a negative reputation performance-wise in the mainstream, it is a very good engine for performant rendering and basic utilities. It is also generally easier and faster to develop in Unity than in Unreal Engine, which is very important for small, ambitious projects with very limited resources. I also have quite some experience with scaling environments in Unity, which should be very handy.
